About Us

Our History

In 2016, the Boerne Public Library Foundation set out to support those in our community who weren't going to the library for one reason or another through the Boerne Reads program.  The goal was to provide access to books for children living in poverty and crisis.  We found a greater need than anticipated.  By 2018, we were providing books to several different social services organizations, supporting maternal literacy through education on the importance of reading and working with our school district to engage students to improve reading and writing skills.

We have provided over 30,000 new and gently used books in our community since 2016.  Not only have we distributed books through crisis facilities, we are now able to provide the library with books to give out to children, we created a lending library at Head Start as well as the Boerne Academy and we provide various organizations with books they can give to children as prizes.

Our Goal

Boerne Reads is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children in Kendall County. This program supports our community through literacy initiatives that strengthen reading skills, provide access to books, educate parents on the importance of reading to their children, and advocate for greater library use. Together, we can work to fight illiteracy and ensure that every child has access to books and literacy programs. Our program not only shows kids how much fun reading can be, but how important reading is for success in academics and life.

Your Donations Change Lives

Pay with PayPal or a debit/credit card

The Boerne Public Library Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization.  Donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

**Because we are adhering to the social distancing recommendations put out by the CDC, we are unable to accept donations of gently used books at this time. We don't have enough books to fill the need. In light of this, we need monetary donations to purchase new books as we continue to provide literacy support to children while they are at home. We are working to include books in boxes of food which are distributed through local organizations and we are growing our avenues for distribution as we settle into the reality of children being out of school for longer than first thought.  No donation is too small and together we will come through this crisis a stronger community than ever before.
